Ushi-oni Matsuri is the three days Summer festival held in Uwajima, Ehime Prefecture to dedicate to Warei Shrine.
The 5 or 6-meter tall floats called Ushi-Oni, means Cow Ogre, parade throughout the streets of Uwajima.
During the festival, there are many other events include traditional Uwajima-Odori dancing and fireworks.
Although there are many theories about origins of Ushi-Oni, according to Nihon Gaishi (“unofficial history in Japan”) written by Raisanyō in the 1880s, it was inspired by a kind of war wagon called “Kitsu Kou Sha” which was used to conquer the Jinju castle in Korea during Japanese invasions of Korea in 1593.
