Overview
Gannin Odori is a ritual dance which was introduced to Hachirogata Town in Akita, during Edo period and it has been handed down from generation to generation.
Gannin was used to be the lower class “Yamabushi,” Japanese mountain ascetic hermits, to go on a pilgrimage to Ise Shrine on behalf of those who couldn’t afford.
Gannin visits Hachirougata town’s neighbors with distributing the bills received at Ise Shrine and perform Gannin Odori together with funny short play.

Gannin Odori was believed to be started about 250 years ago during Edo period to dedicate Soegawa Jinja shrine located in Hachirogata Town, Akita.
