Overview
The Tanabata Picture Lantern Festival is held from 5th to 7th August every year in the city center of Yuzawa city, Akira prefecture.
The paper lantern, decorated with drawings of Tanabata which is a Japanese festival originating from the Chinese Qixi Festival to celebrate the meeting of the deities Orihime and Hikoboshi ( represented by the stars Vega and Altair respectively), lights up the street of Yuzawa.

History
The Tanabata Edourou Matsuri is dedicated to the wife of Load Satake Yoshiyasu who decorated Tanabata bamboos with the strips of five colors for the festival in 1702 middle of Edo period.
It is also said that she entrusted the nostalgia for Kyoto, where she was raised as the princess of Kanpaku Takashi Kanehi, into those stripes.
