Hanawa Bayashi ( Kazuno )

Overview

Hanawa Bayashi is a summer festival which is held to dedicate to Saiwaiinari Shrine, Kazuno city, Akita prefecture.

This festival is famous particularly for Hanawa Bayashi, a kind of Matsuri Bayashi, festival Music, and it is considered as one of the best Matsuri Bayashi in Japan.

Hanawa Bayashi is played by the groups of people on the festival floats called Yatai which are belonged to each one of 10 districts of Kazuno.

History

Hanawa Bayashi is believed to be started when Saiwaiinari Shrine was founded in 1204. However, since the official document of record was lost by the fire which was occurred before the rebuilt of the Shrine in 1470,  the exact origins and historical background are unknown.

In addition, based on the record of the purchase of Mikoshi(portable shrine), the current form and style of Hanawa Bayashi were believed to be established in the late Edo period.
