Overview
Otaue Matsuri (Rice-planting festival) has been handed down nationwide to demonstrate and appreciate a deep relationship between Japanese and rice cultivation.
Along with the ritual to reproduce traditional style rice cultivation at the rice paddy, Hitori Zumo(One Man-Sumo) makes Otaue Matsuri at Ōyamazumi Shrine so unique and special.
Following 1500 years old tradition of the way of Sumo, Hitori Zumo is held at Ōyamazumi Shrine to ensure a bountiful harvest and to honor the spirits.

History
Ōyamazumi Shrine (Ōyamazumi Jinja) was founded in 594 to dedicate to the gods who protect sailors and soldiers. Because of this, many daimyōs and other military leaders have made offerings at the shrine in hopes of military success, or in thanks for victory in battle.
The offerings of swords, armor, and other military equipment are now housed in the largest museum of fighting equipment used during the age of the samurai in Japan.
