Overview
“Hadaka Matsuri” can be translated into English as Naked Festival, is one of the forms of traditional festivals in Japan.
Men in a loincloth compete for robbing an object enshrined called ” Go Shintai”, a body of “Kami”( God in Shinto ) such as a ball or a wooden stick for examples either for purification or fortune-telling.
Tamatori-sai Festival at Itsukushima Shrine is one of those Hadaka matsuris for fortune-telling.
Men in teams jump to grab ” Go Shintai”, the treasure ball, which is hanging above the sea and drop it. The battle continues and whoever brings the ball to the goal, which is a banner called ‘Chushinsho’, is said to have good fortune in the future.
