Tado Matsuri Ageuma Shinji ( The Ritual of Hill climb horse ) ( Mie )

Overview

Ageuma Shinji, the ritual of hill climb horse, is the most significant event at Tado Shrine. 6 young men who represent each district will ride a horse to climb up the hill and get over the 2m wall.

People of Tado believe that they can have a prediction about rice crop based on the result of the event.

In the 2nd day, Yabusame, a mounted archery in traditional Japanese archery, carry out.

History

The ritual to dedicate horses to the shrine is believed to be started during the Nanboku-chō period, spanning from 1336 to 1392, before developed as the festival.
